Why am I locked out after too many attempts?
If you are locked out after too many attempts, LiveRec has paused password and code checks after repeated mistakes, to stop someone guessing their way into an account. The pause is temporary and lifts by itself. Stop trying, wait about 15 minutes, then try once with the correct password or a fresh code.
What triggers a pause
- Changing your password. After five wrong entries of your current password, the change is locked for about 15 minutes. The screen says how long: "Too many incorrect current-password attempts. Try again in about N minutes." These limits are set by LiveRec and can change.
- Authenticator and recovery codes. Employer and recruiter accounts use an authenticator app. Entering wrong codes repeatedly, or using up the checks allowed in a 15-minute window, pauses code checks for the account.
- Emailed codes. Asking for new sign-in or verification codes many times in a row is limited to a few requests every 15 minutes. If you see a rate-limit message, wait before asking again.
Why a correct code can still fail
While an account is paused, LiveRec gives the same "invalid or expired code" answer for a right code as for a wrong one. This is deliberate: it stops anyone learning whether a guess was close. If your code is refused and you are sure it is right, stop, wait, then request or read a fresh code. Only the newest emailed code works.
Steps
- Stop entering passwords or codes.
- Wait about 15 minutes. Retrying during the pause only gets the same refusal.
- Try again once, using the sign-in method you signed up with. If you forgot the password, use Forgot password.
- Employers and recruiters: if your authenticator app is lost or its codes are refused, use one of your recovery codes.
- Still refused? Create a support ticket from Help & support, or use the contact page if you cannot sign in. Give the email address on the account. We never ask for your password or a code.
