Set up employer two-step verification and recovery codes
Two-step verification is mandatory for employer accounts. You scan a QR code with an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator or 1Password, then enter a six-digit code. You also receive ten single-use recovery codes. Save them somewhere safe, because each works once.
Steps
- Go to Account settings, then the Security tab.
- Choose Set up two-factor authentication. If LiveRec asks you to confirm it is you, enter the six-digit code we email you (it works once, for 10 minutes).
- Scan the QR code with your authenticator app, or enter the key shown under it. Then type the six-digit code from the app and choose Turn on.
- Under Recovery codes, choose Generate recovery codes. Copy them with Copy codes, save them in a password manager, then choose Done. They are shown only once.
- To replace the set, choose Generate recovery codes again. The old set stops working at once.
- At sign-in, if you lost your phone, choose Use a recovery code and enter one. Each code works once.
Good to know
- Two-step login is required for employer accounts. If you turn it off, you are asked to set it up again the next time you sign in.
- The Security tab shows how many of your ten recovery codes are left.
- If you ask for a new emailed code, a short countdown limits repeat requests, and you see "New code sent".
- We never ask for your password or codes by email, chat or phone.
