What if I lost my phone or authenticator for two-step sign-in?
If you lost your phone or authenticator, use a recovery code. At the two-step screen, choose Use a recovery code and enter one of the ten single-use codes you saved when you turned two-step verification on. Once you are in, make a new set of codes. Employer and recruiter accounts cannot use an emailed code as the second step.
Steps if you have a recovery code
- Sign in with your usual method. At the two-step screen choose Use a recovery code (the recovery option).
- Enter one unused recovery code. Each works once.
- Open Account settings, then the Security tab. It shows how many recovery codes are left.
- Choose Generate recovery codes to make a new set, copy them to a password manager and choose Done. The old set stops working at once. The codes are shown only once.
- Set up the authenticator app again on your new phone from the same tab, if needed. You may be asked to confirm it is you first.
What each account type sees
| Account | Two-step verification | Options at sign-in |
|---|---|---|
| Employer | Required | Authenticator app code or recovery code |
| Live Recruiter | Required | Authenticator app code or recovery code |
| Affiliate | Optional | Authenticator app code, an emailed code, or a recovery code |
| Job seeker | Not offered. Seekers sign in with Google or an email and password | Not applicable |
What if I have no recovery codes left?
LiveRec cannot let you past the second step from the sign-in screen without a valid code. Contact LiveRec from the contact page on the public site, which opens a chat, say you lost your two-step device, and use the email address on the account. Our team will tell you what is possible. There is no phone support, and we never ask for your password or codes by email, chat or phone.
Good to know
- Wrong codes are limited to 5 checks in 15 minutes. If you reach the limit, stop and wait about 15 minutes. See Why am I locked out?.
- Save your recovery codes when you first turn two-step on, and keep them away from your phone.
