Working in the UAE (Dubai and Abu Dhabi) from India

LiveRec EditorialUpdated

India focus: jobs in Dubai from India. Checked against the destination government's official pages on 30 October 2026. Always confirm on the official site before you apply.

Most Indians who work in the UAE hold an employer-sponsored residence visa. The employer, not the worker, applies to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) for a work permit, and the worker's entry and residence follow from it. The UAE is an ECR country, so Indian ECR passport holders need clearance first.

What are the main work visa routes?

The UAE government portal u.ae describes the usual route for a private-sector job:

  1. The employer is registered with MoHRE and holds an establishment card and an electronic signature card, which are needed to request work permits.
  2. The employer obtains a work permit for you. The u.ae guidance says the permit is valid for a limited period during which the employer must pay the fees and the bank guarantee, or the permit is cancelled.
  3. You receive an entry permit and enter the UAE. The u.ae pages describe a period after arrival in which the medical fitness test, Emirates ID and labour card are completed.
  4. The residence visa is stamped in your passport once the documents are complete.

The UAE Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) runs visa and residence services. u.ae also states that working without the right visa status is illegal and can lead to fines, imprisonment or deportation. Part-time and domestic worker permits follow separate MoHRE processes. For other residence routes, such as investor or long-term options, start from u.ae and ICP rather than from an agent.

What are the ECR implications?

The UAE is on the list of designated ECR countries in the MEA's April 2026 overview. If your passport is endorsed ECR and you go to work, you need emigration clearance first, applied for through eMigrate, with PBBY insurance. An ECNR passport needs no clearance, though registering on eMigrate is voluntary. Read ECR vs ECNR and use only a verified recruiting agent.

Scam warning

Never pay anyone who promises a visa, a job or an "approval" abroad. A real employer does not ask you for a visa fee, and an agent can only be trusted after you check the registration yourself (how to check). Read job scam safety for India and how to identify fake job offers in India. If money is already lost, call 1930 and report at cybercrime.gov.in. Use Sanchar Saathi Chakshu to report suspected fraud messages and calls; it does not recover money.

How do I search for jobs that state visa sponsorship?

LiveRec job listings cannot be filtered by sponsorship that employers set, so do not rely on a filter. Instead:

  1. Open Find jobs and type the role and the country or city in the search box.
  2. Open each listing and read the full description for the words visa, sponsorship, relocation or work permit.
  3. If the listing is silent, ask the employer in a message before you invest time. See how to message an employer and how to ask about sponsorship.
  4. Save a job alert so new listings for that role and place reach you.

Read the whole listing and the offer letter. A mention of sponsorship in a listing is not a promise of a visa, and a visa is always decided by the destination country's government.
