BPO interview questions and answers (India)

LiveRec EditorialUpdated

BPO interview questions in India usually cover communication, comfort with shifts, patience with upset customers and basic computer skills. Most processes start with a short spoken round and a typing or comprehension check. Answer clearly, slowly and honestly, and be ready to explain why you want customer support work.

At a glance

  • Clear speech and a calm tone matter more than perfect accent.
  • Confirm shift timings, cab policy and process type before you accept.
  • Prepare one story about handling a difficult person.
  • Never pay a fee for a BPO job offer.

What should you know about the role before the interview?

A typical BPO hiring flow has a screening call, a spoken-English or voice round, a typing or aptitude check and an HR round, though each company sets its own steps. The National Career Service portal, run by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, states that its services are free of cost and that job seekers should not pay fees to employers (NCS, accessed 31 October 2026). Treat any request for money before an interview or offer as a warning sign.

What BPO interview questions will you be asked?

1. "Tell me about yourself." Clarity, confidence and a short relevant summary.

Sample answer: "I am a graduate from Pune who enjoys talking to people. I did a part-time job at a store where I helped customers daily, and I want to build a career in customer support."

2. "Why do you want to work in a BPO?" Motivation and whether you will stay.

Sample answer: "I like solving problems for people and learning product knowledge. A support role also builds communication skills I can grow in, such as handling escalations and later training others."

3. "Are you comfortable with night or rotational shifts?" Honest availability, not a hopeful yes.

Sample answer: "Yes, I have discussed it with my family and can manage night shifts. I would like to know the rotation pattern and cab arrangements so I can plan my sleep and travel."

4. "How would you handle an angry customer?" Empathy and process under pressure.

Sample answer: "I let the customer finish, apologize for the trouble, repeat the issue so they feel heard, and offer the next step. If it is beyond my authority, I escalate politely with notes."

5. "What does good customer service mean to you?" Whether you understand the customer's point of view.

Sample answer: "Solving the problem in the first contact, being polite even when stressed, and being honest when I do not know the answer instead of guessing."

6. "What if you do not know the answer to a customer's question?" Honesty and willingness to look up information.

Sample answer: "I would tell the customer I will check, put them on a short hold, use the knowledge base or ask my team lead, and return with a correct answer."

7. "How is your typing speed and computer knowledge?" Practical readiness for CRM and chat tools.

Sample answer: "I type steadily with few errors, and I use email, spreadsheets and basic web tools. I practice typing tests regularly and learn new software quickly."

8. "Tell me about a time you worked under pressure." Composure and prioritising.

Sample answer: "During college exams I also ran a small tuition class. I made a weekly plan, finished tasks early and asked for flexibility only when needed. I met both commitments."

9. "Where do you see yourself in three years?" Ambition that fits the company's growth paths.

Sample answer: "I want to become a skilled senior associate, possibly a team lead or trainer, after proving consistent quality scores and attendance."

10. "Do you have any questions for us?" Interest and sensible planning.

Sample answer: "Yes, what training will I get before going on calls, and how are quality and performance reviewed in the first three months?"

How should you prepare?

Practice speaking slowly into your phone's recorder and listen back. Rehearse a two-line introduction using how to introduce yourself as a fresher. Prepare one story on patience. Take a free online typing test a few times, and check the company's reviews and job post carefully.

What should you ask the interviewer?

  • What training will I receive before taking live customers?
  • How are shifts and weekly offs scheduled?
  • Is transport provided for late shifts?
  • How are targets and quality scores measured?
