What is the SSC recruitment process?
The SSC recruitment process covers hiring by the Staff Selection Commission, a Government of India body, for posts in central government departments. Candidates find each notice on ssc.gov.in, register and apply online, take the exam and go through the stages the notice lists. That notice is the only authority on dates, eligibility and fees.
This page explains the process. It does not list vacancies, cut-offs or dates, because they change with every cycle.
At a glance
- Open ssc.gov.in directly. Do not click a link from a message or social post.
- The SSC site names examinations such as CGL, CHSL, Stenographer, JE, CPO, GD Constable and Scientific Assistant. Each has its own notice.
- Eligibility, age limits, fees and stages are in that exam's notice, not in a coaching website's summary.
- No agent, official or website can guarantee an SSC job for money.
What are the steps in the SSC recruitment process, from notice to joining?
| Step | What to do |
|---|---|
| 1. Find the notice | Open ssc.gov.in and read the full notice for the exam, not a short summary |
| 2. Check eligibility | Match your education, age and nationality with each post. See government job eligibility basics |
| 3. Note the dates | Start, last date to apply, fee last date, correction window, admit card, exam |
| 4. Register and apply | Register on the SSC portal and fill the online form exactly as the notice describes |
| 5. Pay the fee, if any | Pay only on the official portal; save the receipt |
| 6. Admit card | Download it from the official site; check name, centre and reporting time |
| 7. Take the exam | Follow the instructions on the admit card and the notice |
| 8. Later stages | The notice lists any further tests, document verification and medical checks for the post |
| 9. Results | Check results and notices only on the official site |
How do you read an SSC notice?
Use the parts listed in how to read a government job notification: posts and vacancies, eligibility, age as on a stated date, fee, selection process, syllabus, and photo and signature specifications. Keep the notice number with your application records.
What documents should you keep ready?
Education certificates, a photo ID, category or other certificates if you claim any relaxation, a recent photograph and your signature in the format the notice requires. Check the exact specifications in the notice before you scan them.
How do you avoid fake SSC sites and offers?
- Type ssc.gov.in yourself. Look-alike domains copy the logo and colours.
- Anyone who offers a seat, a result change or a job for money is a fraud. A genuine notice asks you to pay only the official fee, on the official portal.
- Be careful with Telegram and WhatsApp groups that promise "guaranteed selection".
If someone asks for money to "fix" a result, reserve a seat or give you a government job, it is a fraud. If you lose money, call 1930 and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in. To report a suspicious call, SMS or WhatsApp message, use Sanchar Saathi Chakshu (sancharsaathi.gov.in); Chakshu is for reporting suspected fraud messages, not for recovering money already lost. See how to report job fraud in India.
Read the fake government job offers checklist and the list of official government job websites.
