Where do I report job fraud in India?
India: official channels as of 30 Oct 2026. Official links checked on 30 October 2026.
If you have lost money to job fraud in India, call the national cyber-crime helpline 1930 or report at cybercrime.gov.in. If you only received a suspicious call, SMS or WhatsApp message, report it on Sanchar Saathi through Chakshu. Chakshu is not a facility for reporting money already lost.
How to report job fraud in India: which channel for which case
| Situation | Where |
|---|---|
| You paid money or lost funds | 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in, then your bank |
| Suspicious call, SMS or WhatsApp message (sender's number visible) | Chakshu, on the Sanchar Saathi portal or app |
| Fake overseas job or agent | See overseas job fraud and the MEA page |
| Fake posting on LiveRec | Report job or Report employer inside LiveRec |
Using Chakshu
On the Sanchar Saathi portal or app, choose Citizen Centric Services, then Chakshu. Choose the medium and category, describe the communication, optionally upload a screenshot and verify your mobile number with an OTP. After checking, the Department of Telecommunications may reverify the subscriber, disconnect the sender or file complaints. It does not promise action against every sender, and it says it keeps your identity confidential.
Keep evidence
Phone numbers, UPI IDs, account numbers, screenshots, email headers, transaction receipts and dates.
Report on LiveRec
Open the job and choose Report job, or the company page and choose Report employer. Reasons include Fake job, Asks me for money and Impersonating a company or person. Reports are private, the employer is not told who reported, and our team reviews every report. You must be signed in. See also report a job.
FAQ
Will I get my money back? Reporting does not guarantee recovery, but quick reporting gives the best chance.
Is there a fee to report? Do not pay anyone who offers to recover your money for a fee.
Before you report: a one-page evidence sheet
Write or screenshot these in one place:
- The date and time of each contact
- Phone numbers, WhatsApp or Telegram handles, and email addresses
- Payment details: amount, date, UPI ID or account number and the transaction reference
- The job post, link or offer letter
- Chat messages and any voice notes
Reporting in order
- If you paid: call 1930 or open cybercrime.gov.in, as Sanchar Saathi directs victims of financial fraud. Then tell your bank, using the number on your card or the bank's official app.
- If the sender's number is visible: report on Chakshu. The portal lists the steps: Citizen Centric Services, then Chakshu, then medium and category, details with an optional screenshot, OTP verification of your own mobile number and submit.
- If the message used the National Career Service's name: the NCS gives 1514 as its helpline and says it charges no fee at any stage.
- If you saw it on LiveRec: open the job and choose Report job.
What to expect
Sanchar Saathi says the Department of Telecommunications verifies a Chakshu report and may act against the sender, but does not guarantee action. It says reporter confidentiality is a policy, and that non-genuine reports may lead to action against the reporter. Report only what really happened.
Common mistakes
- Calling the scammer to demand money back. This gives them more time.
- Paying someone who says they can recover your money for a fee.
- Reporting only on social media.
- Waiting to report until you are "sure."
- Deleting chats.
