Jobs in the UK for Indians: Skilled Worker Visa Guide
India focus. Checked against the destination government's official pages on 30 October 2026. Always confirm on the official site before you apply.
Jobs in the UK for Indians on skilled work generally need an offer from a UK employer approved by the Home Office, and that employer must give you a certificate of sponsorship. The UK is not an ECR country. The GOV.UK pages hold the current rules.
What are the main work visa routes for Indians in the UK?
GOV.UK describes the Skilled Worker visa this way:
- You must work for a UK employer approved by the Home Office, who gives you a certificate of sponsorship with details of the role.
- The job must be on the list of eligible occupations, and you must be paid at least the minimum salary, which depends on the type of work and the date of your certificate. The overview page does not state a figure; use the GOV.UK salary page.
- You must show English language ability, and you need a confirmed job offer before you apply.
- People already in the UK can extend or switch; partners and children may apply as dependants.
- The Health and Care Worker visa is the route for doctors, nurses and people working in health or adult social care.
- After five years in the UK, settlement (indefinite leave to remain) may be possible.
To check an employer, use the Home Office's published register of licensed sponsors on GOV.UK. A company missing from it cannot sponsor you.
What are the ECR implications?
The UK is not named among the designated ECR countries in the MEA's April 2026 overview, so the emigration clearance rule does not apply to the trip. Your destination visa rules still do. Confirm the current ECR list on eMigrate if you hold an ECR passport. Agents who offer jobs in The UK still need to be genuine; see how to check an agent.
Scam warning
Never pay anyone who promises a visa, a job or an "approval" abroad. A real employer does not ask you for a visa fee, and an agent can only be trusted after you check the registration yourself (how to check). Read job scam safety for India and how to identify fake job offers in India. If money is already lost, call 1930 and report at cybercrime.gov.in. Use Sanchar Saathi Chakshu to report suspected fraud messages and calls; it does not recover money.
How do I search for jobs that state visa sponsorship?
LiveRec job listings cannot be filtered by sponsorship that employers set, so do not rely on a filter. Instead:
- Open Find jobs and type the role and the country or city in the search box.
- Open each listing and read the full description for the words visa, sponsorship, relocation or work permit.
- If the listing is silent, ask the employer in a message before you invest time. See how to message an employer and how to ask about sponsorship.
- Save a job alert so new listings for that role and place reach you.
Read the whole listing and the offer letter. A mention of sponsorship in a listing is not a promise of a visa, and a visa is always decided by the destination country's government.
