Jobs in Australia for Indians: Work Visa Routes
India focus. Checked against the destination government's official pages on 30 October 2026. Always confirm on the official site before you apply.
Jobs in Australia for Indians mostly run on employer-sponsored and points-tested skilled visas under the Department of Home Affairs. The employer-sponsored temporary route is the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482). Australia is not an ECR country, but you must follow the visa rules shown on the Home Affairs website.
What are the main work visa routes for Indians in Australia?
The Home Affairs site (immi.homeaffairs.gov.au) describes these routes:
- Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482): an employer-sponsored temporary visa that replaced the Temporary Skill Shortage visa on 7 December 2024. It has labour agreement streams, a sufficient English requirement for primary applicants unless exempt, and exemptions for some occupations.
- Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186): a sponsored route to permanent residence, also offered through labour agreement streams.
- Skilled Independent (subclass 189): a points-tested permanent visa for occupations on the skilled occupation list. No employer is needed.
- Occupation lists and processing priorities are published by Home Affairs and change; check them before you rely on a role.
Employers must be approved by Home Affairs to sponsor. Do not pay anyone for a "sponsor" you cannot verify.
What are the ECR implications?
Australia is not named among the designated ECR countries in the MEA's April 2026 overview, so the emigration clearance rule does not apply to the trip. Your destination visa rules still do. Confirm the current ECR list on eMigrate if you hold an ECR passport. Agents who offer jobs in Australia still need to be genuine; see how to check an agent.
Scam warning
Never pay anyone who promises a visa, a job or an "approval" abroad. A real employer does not ask you for a visa fee, and an agent can only be trusted after you check the registration yourself (how to check). Read job scam safety for India and how to identify fake job offers in India. If money is already lost, call 1930 and report at cybercrime.gov.in. Use Sanchar Saathi Chakshu to report suspected fraud messages and calls; it does not recover money.
How do I search for jobs that state visa sponsorship?
LiveRec job listings cannot be filtered by sponsorship that employers set, so do not rely on a filter. Instead:
- Open Find jobs and type the role and the country or city in the search box.
- Open each listing and read the full description for the words visa, sponsorship, relocation or work permit.
- If the listing is silent, ask the employer in a message before you invest time. See how to message an employer and how to ask about sponsorship.
- Save a job alert so new listings for that role and place reach you.
Read the whole listing and the offer letter. A mention of sponsorship in a listing is not a promise of a visa, and a visa is always decided by the destination country's government.
