How does the RRB railway recruitment process work?

LiveRec EditorialUpdated

The RRB railway recruitment process starts with Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs), which recruit for Indian Railways. The Indian Railways website at indianrailways.gov.in has a Vacancies link that leads to the Railway Recruitment Boards site, where each recruitment is published as a numbered notice. Read that notice, apply online on the official portal, and follow the stages it lists.

This page explains the process. Vacancies and dates change; read the current notice.

At a glance

  • Start from indianrailways.gov.in and use its Vacancies link to reach the RRB site.
  • Each recruitment has a notice number (a Centralised Employment Notice, or CEN, for many recruitments). Use that number in every record.
  • Eligibility, age as on a stated date, fee and stages are in the notice.
  • The Indian Railways home page has carried denials of fake Railway Board letters, so verify any document you receive against the official site.

What are the steps?

StepWhat to do
1Open indianrailways.gov.in and click Vacancies to reach the RRB site
2Read the full notice for the post you want
3Match your qualification, age and nationality; see eligibility basics
4Register and apply in the window in the notice
5Pay any fee only on the official portal
6Download the schedule, admit card or city intimation from the official site
7Attend the stages listed for your post. Some posts have a skill, aptitude or physical test, as stated in the notice
8Document verification and medical examination, if the notice lists them

How do you read a railway notice?

Check the post names and vacancies, the educational qualification, the age and relaxation rules, the zone or RRB region, the selection stages, the fee and refund rules, and the photo and signature specifications. Use how to read a government job notification.

How do you spot fake railway job offers?

  • A real notice appears on the official sites, not only in a forwarded image.
  • Railways does not take money for a job. Offers of a "railway job through quota" or "direct appointment" are frauds.
  • Fake letters can copy real offices and names. Verify any appointment letter with the issuing office through the official site.
  • Be careful with PDFs that ask you to pay for medical, training or uniform before joining.

If someone asks for money to "fix" a result, reserve a seat or give you a government job, it is a fraud. If you lose money, call 1930 and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in. To report a suspicious call, SMS or WhatsApp message, use Sanchar Saathi Chakshu (sancharsaathi.gov.in); Chakshu is for reporting suspected fraud messages, not for recovering money already lost. See how to report job fraud in India.

Read the fake government job offers checklist.
