Roles and permissions explained
A role is a named set of permissions. Built-in roles are Owner, Admin, Hiring manager, Recruiter, Billing and Member. The Owner always has every permission. In Teams & permissions, open the Permissions tab to tick what each role can do, then choose Save changes.
Steps
- Open Teams & permissions, then the Roles tab. It lists each role with its Members count. Select a role to see its permissions and who holds it.
- Open the Permissions tab. Each row is a permission and each column is a role.
- Tick or untick a box, or use a section box to change a whole section at once.
- Choose Save changes. Restore defaults in a role's column resets that role to its built-in settings.
- For a role of your own, choose Add role on the Roles tab, name it, and either start from a built-in role or choose Custom and tick only what it needs. A company can have up to 25 custom roles.
Good to know
- You cannot change the Owner, your own role, or give a role a permission you do not have yourself.
- Sub-permissions are indented under their parent and stay off while the parent is off.
- Sensitive areas such as billing, background checks, payroll and exports have their own permissions, so a role can have them separately.
- Only team members who can manage the team can change permissions. Others see the grid read-only.
