What is Probation?
Probation is a trial period at the start of a job, after which the employer confirms the employee or extends or ends the engagement. Its length and the notice during probation come from your appointment letter or standing orders. We found no single length set for all employers in the Ministry's summaries of the Labour Codes.
Example
An appointment letter says six months of probation with one month of notice and confirmation in writing. Ask when your confirmation will be issued and whether benefits such as leave start at joining.
