What is Appointment Letter?

LiveRec EditorialUpdated

An appointment letter is the formal document issued when you join, stating your designation, wages, terms of service and social security entitlements. The OSH Code requires employers to give one to every employee. It differs from an offer letter, which states terms before you accept and may not carry the same detail.

Example

After joining, HR issues a signed letter listing your role, salary breakup, probation, notice period and PF and ESI details. Keep a copy; ask for one in writing if you did not receive it.
