What is Notice Period?

LiveRec EditorialUpdated

A notice period is the time between telling your employer you are leaving (or being told you are being let go) and your last working day. It is set by your contract. In India 30, 60 and 90 days are common; in the US two weeks is a custom for at-will employees.

During the notice period

You stay employed, are paid for work done and usually hand over your tasks. Some employers allow early release or a notice buyout, which means paying or being paid for the unserved days.

Where to find yours

Check your appointment letter or HR policy. For the full guide see notice period in India, and for US norms see how to resign professionally.
