What is Apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is structured on-the-job training under the Apprentices Act, 1961, in which a person learns a trade or skill while earning a stipend. An apprentice is not an employee under the Code on Wages, 2019, which excludes apprentices engaged under that Act from its definition of employee.
Example
A company enrols a diploma holder as an apprentice for a set period. The apprentice receives training and a stipend, and the arrangement is governed by the Apprentices Act, not by employee wage rules.
