Affiliate link disclosure template
An affiliate link disclosure tells readers you earn money if they buy through your link. Put it next to the link, in plain words such as "Ad: I earn a commission if you sign up through this link." The FTC says to place it with the endorsement, not in a profile page, at the end, or behind a "more" link.
US rules as of 31 October 2026. India: see the ASCI note below.
At a glance
- Disclose any financial, employment, personal or family tie to a brand. Money is not the only kind of connection.
- Place the disclosure where people will notice it, with the endorsement itself.
- Use simple words. "Ad", "advertisement", "sponsored" work. Avoid vague terms such as "sp", "collab" or a standalone "thanks".
- LiveRec's program rules also ask you to add your own notice before the link so people know you are paid.
Copy-paste wording
Blog post or article (above the first link):
Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. If you sign up through them, I earn a commission at no extra cost to you.Short social post:
Ad: I earn a commission if you sign up with my link.Video (say it out loud and show it on screen near the start):
"This video includes an affiliate link. I earn a commission if you sign up through it."Email or newsletter (above the link):
Heads up: the link below is an affiliate link, so I earn a commission if you use it.Live stream: say it at the start and repeat it periodically.
Image-only posts: put the word "Ad" over the image, large enough to read.
Where should it go?
| Place | Do | Do not |
|---|---|---|
| Blog or article | Put it before the first affiliate link | Hide it only in a footer or "About" page |
| Social post | Put "Ad" in the first line | Bury it in a pile of hashtags |
| Video | Say it and show it | Put it only in the description |
| Put it above the link | Put it at the bottom | |
| Stories or reels | Superimpose it on the picture | Rely on a platform tool alone |
The FTC says to use a platform's disclosure tool in addition to your own disclosure, not instead of it.
What else should you avoid?
- Do not promise income, jobs or visas to readers. LiveRec's rules prohibit promising or implying guaranteed earnings or results.
- Only say what you honestly believe about the product.
- Do not target people under 18.
- Do not post links on coupon or deals sites, and do not cold email people who did not ask to hear from you. See the full program rules.
If you are in India
The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) requires a disclosure label wherever there is a material connection. Its guidelines list permitted labels, including "Advertisement", "Ad", "Sponsored", "Collaboration", "Partnership" and "Affiliate". The disclosure must be upfront and prominent, and in English or the language of the content. See affiliate program in India for the current status of the program outside the United States.
