Resume format for freshers in India
A resume format for freshers in India should be one page, in reverse-chronological order, with these sections: contact details, a two-line objective or summary, education, projects, internships, skills, and achievements. Lead with education for campus placements, or projects if they are stronger. Use a plain single-column layout so applicant tracking software can read it.
A fresher is a candidate with no full-time work experience, usually a recent graduate. This page gives a format you can copy, a filled sample, and a checklist.
At a glance
- One page. Save as PDF named
Firstname_Lastname_Resume.pdf. - Single column, a standard font (Calibri, Arial) at 10 to 11 point, no tables for layout, no text in images.
- Show proof: projects with a link, numbers where you have them, and tools named.
- Leave out the photo, date of birth, religion, marital status and full home address unless a specific employer asks. These are common in older Indian templates but are not needed for most applications.
Which section order works?
| Your situation | Order |
|---|---|
| Strong academics (campus drives) | Education, Projects, Internships, Skills, Achievements |
| Strong projects, average marks | Projects, Skills, Education, Internships, Achievements |
| Career switch, bootcamp or course | Summary, Skills, Projects, Education |
| Some freelance or part-time work | Add "Experience" after Education, even for small gigs |

Bullet formula
Action verb, what you did, how, and the result. Weak: "Worked on a website for events." Stronger: "Built an events site in React and Node.js that handled 600 registrations in its first month." If you have no number, say what changed: "replaced a paper sign-up sheet."
Common mistakes
- Two pages. Admissions-style long resumes rarely help a fresher.
- Generic objective. "Seeking a challenging position in a reputed organisation" says nothing.
- Skill-bar charts. Percent bars for "Python 80%" mean nothing and break software parsing.
- Listing every tool you once touched. Put only what you can talk about for five minutes.
- Inconsistent dates and CGPA formats. Pick one style.
- Personal email like cooldude99@. Use a name-based address.
- Unverifiable claims. Interviewers test your projects. See fresher interview questions.

Frequently asked questions
Should a fresher include a photo? Not usually. Most corporate employers do not need it, and it can introduce bias. Follow the instruction if a particular campus drive or employer asks for it.
Can I include school marks? Yes, Class X and XII results are customary for freshers in India, especially for campus placements. Keep them short, in one line each.
What if I have no projects or internships? Use academic work, coursework with real outputs, volunteering, college club roles and certificates, each with a concrete outcome.
How long should a fresher CV be? One page. Resume and CV are used interchangeably in India for early-career applications.
Should I write my CGPA or percentage? Write what your university reports, and add the scale (8.2/10) so it is not ambiguous. Do not convert to a percentage unless the employer asks.
