Follow-up email after applying or interviewing
A short, polite follow-up email after applying shows interest and often brings a reply. Send it about a week after applying, or on the day an interviewer said you would hear back. Send one follow-up, maybe two, spaced a week apart. Keep it brief, specific and easy to answer.
At a glance
- Wait about a week after applying, unless the post gives a date.
- One or two follow-ups at most.
- Reference the exact role and date applied.
- Add one new fact if you can: a project, a certification.
- Do not demand a reply or call repeatedly.
