8th Pay Commission: what the official notices say
The 8th Pay Commission, formally the Eighth Central Pay Commission, was set up by a Ministry of Finance resolution dated 3 November 2025. It is headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. The resolution says the Commission will make its recommendations within 18 months of its constitution. This page reports only what official sources state.

- Chairperson: Smt. Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. Part-time member: Prof. Pulak Ghosh. Member-Secretary: Shri Pankaj Jain.
- The resolution gives the Commission 18 months from its constitution to make recommendations.

What does the official notification say?
The resolution lists the groups the Commission will cover. These include central government employees, personnel of the All India Services and the defence forces, employees of Union Territories, and the officers and staff of the Supreme Court, among others. It asks the Commission to examine pay, allowances and other benefits, to review bonus schemes and allowances, and to look at the National Pension System including the Unified Pension Scheme.
The resolution also says the Commission may send interim reports on any of the matters when recommendations on them are finalized. In making its recommendations it must keep in view factors such as the financial position of the country and the likely impact on the finances of State Governments.
What does the Commission's own website show?
The 8th CPC website describes the Commission as set up at the Chanderlok Building on Janpath, New Delhi. Its "What's New" list shows notices of visits to cities such as Jaipur, Chandigarh, Bengaluru and Mumbai during 2026 to meet unions, associations and state governments, and a questionnaire and memorandum submission facility. As of its last update on 23 June 2026, the home page lists no recommendations.
What has not been officially announced?
The official notices cited on this page do not state a date from which new pay will apply, a pay figure, a fitment factor or a pension change. Be careful with websites or videos that give a new salary table or a start date. If an official notification does not carry it, treat it as a guess.
Where do I check updates?
- The 8th CPC website (8cpc.gov.in) for notices, the questionnaire and the repository of earlier commission reports.
- The Department of Expenditure website (doe.gov.in) for orders on pay and allowances.
- The Press Information Bureau for announcements by the Government.
How does this affect my job search?
A new pay commission does not change the pay level written in a recruitment notice today. Read the notice for the post's level, then see the 7th CPC pay matrix explained and the pay level explainer. Use only official government job websites and beware of fake government job offers that promise the "new pay".
