BGV full form: what is Background Verification?
BGV full form is Background Verification. It is the set of checks an employer in India runs on a candidate's identity, education, past employment and sometimes address or records, usually through a verification company, either before or shortly after joining. Offers are often conditional on a clear result.
What gets checked
Common checks are identity documents, degrees and certificates, previous employers (dates, designation, reason for leaving), and address. Some roles add checks on court or criminal records or professional references. A candidate normally signs a consent form first, and the company contacts previous employers or institutions for confirmation.
If something does not match
Mismatches such as different dates of joining or a missing relieving letter are a common reason for delays. Tell HR early, give supporting documents like experience and relieving letters, and ask for the specific discrepancy in writing. Keep copies of every document you submit.
Privacy
Employers handling your personal data in India are also subject to data protection rules, so ask what is collected and how long it is kept.
Example
After accepting an offer, a candidate signs a consent form and uploads her degree certificate and relieving letter. The verification company confirms her education and last employer within the agreed time, and HR releases the joining date.
