What does a delivery executive do?
A delivery executive handles the last stage of an order. You collect items from a store, restaurant or warehouse, follow the route in a navigation app, hand over the order, collect payment where the order is cash on delivery, and mark the delivery done.
Typical duties:
- Check each package or order against the list.
- Plan routes to deliver on time.
- Treat customers politely and confirm identity or OTP if the system asks.
- Handle cash on delivery accurately and deposit it as the company directs.
- Keep the vehicle and bag in good condition.
Documents and route in
- Keep ID, address proof and bank details ready. Employers also commonly verify your background.
- If the role needs a vehicle, you will usually need a valid driving licence for that vehicle type and the vehicle papers. Ask the employer what it requires and who provides the vehicle.
- Training is typically short and given by the employer at no cost to you.
- Check whether you are offered employment or engaged as a partner, since benefits and responsibilities differ. Ask for the terms in writing.
Skills that matter
Knowing local roads, punctuality, safe riding, politeness, basic smartphone use, and honest handling of cash. Language skills for the area help you reach customers.
Job outlook
Grocery, food, e-commerce and courier firms hire delivery staff in many cities, and the National Career Service lists transportation and storage as a job sector. Terms differ widely, so compare employers carefully.
How pay is structured
Pay differs by employer, city and experience, so no figures are given here. Ask what part of the offer is fixed, what is variable, and what reaches your bank account each month. Use the CTC to in-hand calculator and the CTC vs in-hand guide to compare offers on take-home pay.
Understanding earnings
Some delivery pay is per order, some is a fixed amount plus incentives, and some is a mix. Ask how the amount is calculated, who pays for fuel, vehicle maintenance, phone data and any insurance, and when payments reach your bank account. Compare offers on what you keep, not on a headline number.
How to get hired

Beware of fake job offers
A genuine employer does not ask you to pay for an interview, training, uniform, kit or "registration". The National Career Service states that it charges no fee at any stage and that jobseekers should not pay fees to employers; its toll-free helpline is 1514, and cyber fraud can be reported on 1930.
