US visa sponsorship jobs index: H-1B patterns, fiscal year 2025

LiveRec EditorialUpdated

LiveRec is a verified job platform for seekers and employers in the US and India. This index uses only official US government data to show which occupations, states and employers asked to hire foreign workers on H-1B visas, and what wages they offered. It describes filings, not visas granted, and it is not a list of who will sponsor you.

Headline findings

  • Employers filed 582,271 H-1B labor condition applications (LCAs) in fiscal year 2025 (1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025). 539,444 (92.6%) were certified and 3,505 (0.6%) were denied.
  • Software Developers were the largest occupation: 170,694 certified records, or 32% of all certified records, with a median offered wage of $136,000.
  • California and Texas together account for 34.0% of certified records by worksite state.
  • The median offered annual wage across full-time certified records was $120,000.
  • No single employer dominates: the ten largest account for 14.6% of certified records, spread over 66,544 employer names.

What an LCA is, and what it is not

An LCA is a form an employer files with the US Department of Labor before it asks USCIS to approve an H-1B petition. A certified LCA is not an approved visa and does not mean a worker was hired. One record can cover several positions, and amendments and renewals are filed as new records, so the counts below measure employer demand and filing activity, not people.

Records are grouped by the exact employer name in the filing, so a company that files under several names appears under each. The full list is in the DOL file linked below.

Wage levels

The Department of Labor assigns each filing a prevailing wage level from I (entry) to IV (most experienced). Of certified records, 20.4% were level I, 42.0% level II, 21.0% level III and 16.6% level IV.

What USCIS data adds: approvals by employer (fiscal year 2023)

USCIS publishes the first decisions it makes on petitions in its H-1B Employer Data Hub. The interactive hub now covers fiscal years 2009 to 2026, but its newer data can only be exported through the hub's own download button, which we did not automate. The most recent complete file that USCIS publishes for direct download is fiscal year 2023, so the figures here are from that year. In fiscal year 2023 USCIS recorded 38,315 initial approvals and 2,432 initial denials, a 94.0% initial approval rate, and 138,635 continuing approvals against 3,918 denials.

Method

  • DOL file: the four quarterly LCA disclosure files for fiscal year 2025, downloaded on 1 November 2026. We kept rows where the visa class is H-1B (582,271 rows) and counted certified rows (case status "Certified") as certified records. Employer, occupation and state are the filing's employer name, SOC title and worksite state.
  • Wages: the offered wage is the "wage rate of pay from" field, converted to a yearly figure (hourly x 2,080 hours, weekly x 52, biweekly x 26, monthly x 12). Medians use full-time records with a yearly figure between $20,000 and $1,500,000 (528,713 records) to drop obvious data-entry errors.
  • USCIS file: column totals of the fiscal year 2023 export. Employers are identified by name and the last four digits of their tax ID; this page groups by name only.
  • Both calculations are reproducible from the public files with a short script. Figures are rounded; shares may not add to 100 because of rounding. Government files are revised and may differ slightly if downloaded later.

Limits

These are filings and decisions, not outcomes. The data does not say who got a visa, because annual visa allocation is a separate step. It also does not show whether a job is open to you. For a sponsor you actually want to approach, check the employer directly, and confirm sponsorship before you accept. See our guide to spotting job scams before paying anyone who promises a visa.
