Under supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled mechanical maintenance work; and does related work as required.

• Does skilled carpentry work in the alterations, repair, and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, window screens, wood fixtures and furniture.
• Repairs tables, chairs, benches, cupboards, counters; builds concrete forms, false work and scaffolds; lays subflooring and does sheathing.
• Operates power saws, jointers, wood lathes, planers and boring, sanding and mortising machines.
• Cleans, sharpens, and repairs hand and bench tools.
• Makes estimates of time and materials required for assigned tasks; reads blueprints and rough drawings; keeps simple records.
• Employee required to work any emergency as directed by the Commissioner of Public Works.

2 years of experience required in related work. Must be a resident of the city of Boston.
