Under general supervision of the Director of Dentistry,

• Provides direct care to inmate population and maintains dental health delivery services at assigned dental clinic for assigned inmate population.
• Prepares patient for treatment and provides chairside assistance for all dental procedures.
• Operates dental equipment as necessary for the care and treatment of patients.
• Exposes, develops and mounts/files dental X-rays.
• Prepares and maintains dental X-ray developing solutions.
• Maintains equipment by cleaning and lubricating dental hand pieces, suction lines, etc.
• Cleans working areas and sterilizes instruments and equipment.
• Performs clinical laboratory procedures.
• Prepares and mixes various filling and impression materials.
• Performs prophylaxis and oral hygiene as needed.
• Schedules dental appointments.
• Maintains dental patient records.
• Maintains the inventory of the clinic dental supplies.
• Requests additional supplies as needed.
• Keeps statistical reports on clinical activities and performs administrative/clerical duties as necessary.
• Assists with providing dental care to other dental clinics statewide as needed.

An associate degree in Dental Assistance or one year of formal training in a dental assistance course accredited by the American Dental Association.

• An associate degree in dental assistance.

• A high school diploma and one (1) year of formal training in an ADA accredited assistant's course and one (1) year of dental assistant experience with certification in dental x-ray

• A high school diploma, DANB's Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) certification, and two years’ work experience as a dental assistant with certification in dental x-ray.
