What is SEVIS?
SEVIS, the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System, is the US Department of Homeland Security database that tracks international students and exchange visitors, including their school, status and any OPT or CPT authorization. Schools update it through a designated school official, and a student's record must stay active to keep status.
Example
A student on OPT must report a new employer and address so that the school can update SEVIS. A missing update can cause problems with status and later applications.
