What is Overtime?
Overtime is work beyond the normal hours limit, paid at a higher rate. Under the OSH Code, standard hours are eight a day and 48 a week, and overtime requires the worker's consent and is paid at twice the normal rate of wages. The Code on Wages also requires double pay for eligible employees.
Example
A worker covered by the Code works nine hours one day. The extra hour is overtime, paid at twice the normal hourly wage, at the end of the wage period, and the worker had to consent to it.
