CNA Resume Example: how to format it section by section
A CNA resume example should show your state certification, the type of facility you worked in and the daily care you gave. Put registry status in the header, write short bullets about residents and shifts, and list skills like transfers and vital signs. This page walks through each section with a fictional sample.
At a glance
- Show your state CNA certification and registry status near the top.
- Name the setting: long-term care, hospital, home health or rehab.
- Describe daily care tasks and resident counts, not just "helped patients".
- One page is enough for most CNA resumes.
How to format a certified nursing assistant resume, section by section
Header
Give your name, city and state, phone and email. Add a credentials line, for example "CNA, Anystate Nurse Aide Registry, active", plus CPR. Facilities verify the registry, so make sure the name on your resume matches the name on your certificate.
Summary
Write two lines: setting, strengths and availability. Example: "Certified nursing assistant with three years in long-term care, dependable on evening and weekend shifts, skilled in resident transfers and documentation." New CNAs can mention clinical hours from their training program.
Skills
List hands-on skills (vital signs, bathing and grooming, safe transfers, repositioning, feeding assistance), documentation skills, and soft skills that matter in this job such as patience and clear reporting to nurses. Keep it to one tidy block.
Experience
Start with action verbs and give a count where you can: "Assisted eight to ten residents per shift with bathing, dressing and meals." Mention reporting changes in condition to the nurse and following infection control steps. Shifts and schedule reliability are worth a bullet.
Education and credentials
List your state-approved training program and completion year, then certifications. Add a high school diploma line only if it is your highest education. If your certificate is pending the competency exam, say so honestly with the expected date.

EDUCATION
Nurse Aide Training Program, Example Community College, 2023Tailor the certified nursing assistant resume to each posting
Read the posting and copy its exact terms into your summary, skills and bullets, but only where they describe work you have done. Put the requirement that appears first in the posting first in your skills block. If two jobs ask for different strengths, keep two versions of the certified nursing assistant resume rather than one vague one.
Before you send it, copy the resume into a plain text file and read it top to bottom. Headings should be in order, dates should line up and no line should be cut off. Then ask a friend in the field to read it for ten seconds and say what the job is. If they cannot, move your strongest certified nursing assistant facts higher.
