How this is calculated

  1. Increase = current pay × hike percentage ÷ 100.
  2. New pay = current pay + increase.
  3. If you know the new pay instead, hike percentage = (new pay − current pay) ÷ current pay × 100.
  4. A yearly figure is divided by 12 for the monthly difference. A monthly figure is multiplied by 12 for the yearly difference.

Example: a 10 percent hike on 60,000 a year is 6,000, so the new pay is 66,000 a year, or 500 more a month.

Assumptions and sources

  • The formulas are arithmetic. No external source, market average or tax table is used.
  • Figures are before tax, deductions and any change to benefits or bonus.
  • A percentage that applies to only one pay component, such as basic, changes the total by a different amount. Enter the pay figure the hike applies to.
