Warehouse Associate job description template

LiveRec EditorialUpdated

US format, federal rules as of 30 Oct 2026. State and local rules vary.

A warehouse associate receives, stores, picks, packs and ships goods. A clear job description lists the shift and overtime pattern, the lifting and standing demands, the equipment the person will operate, the pay rate and any production or accuracy standard so applicants know the real job.

At a glance

  • Put the shift, start time and mandatory overtime policy in the first lines.
  • State lifting requirements as essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Say whether forklift or pallet-jack training is provided.

How to customize it

  • Forklifts: federal OSHA rules require operators to be trained and evaluated by the employer. Do not require a "certificate" from a prior employer instead.
  • Overtime: warehouse associates paid hourly are non-exempt. State your overtime and shift-premium rules.
  • Pace standards: if productivity rates are measured, say so; several states regulate quotas in warehouses.
  • Heat and cold: say if the work area is not climate-controlled.
  • Level: delete the junior or senior wording that does not apply, and cut every requirement you would not screen for.
  • Pay: enter your own approved range. Several states require a range in the posting; see pay transparency laws.

FAQ

Do I need to list the exact weight? List the weight that the job really requires. Overstated physical requirements can screen out qualified people without a business reason.

Can I require a high school diploma? Only if the job needs it. For most warehouse work, a diploma line narrows the pool without telling you about ability.
