Cashier Resume Example: how to format it section by section
A cashier resume example should show accuracy with money, speed at the register and a friendly manner with customers. Keep it to one page, put availability near the top, and describe your register experience in plain bullets. This guide gives each section a format and a fictional sample to adapt.
At a glance
- Show cash handling, accuracy and customer service together.
- Name the register or point-of-sale system if you know it.
- State availability and whether you can work weekends and holidays.
- One short page is the right length.
How to format a cashier resume, section by section
Header
Name, city and state, phone, email. Availability goes in the header or a single line below it. Cashier hiring is often schedule-driven, so make that easy to find.
Summary
Two lines: setting and strengths. Example: "Cashier with two years at a high-volume grocery store, accurate with cash drawers and patient with long lines." A first-time applicant can mention school, volunteer or family-business experience.
Skills
Include cash handling, point-of-sale, card and mobile payments, bagging, returns, counting a drawer, and clear communication. If you speak another language with customers, name it. Do not add skills you have not used.
Experience
Use bullets such as "Processed cash, card and mobile payments at a six-register store" and "Balanced the drawer at the end of each shift with few differences." Only include a number or accuracy claim you can explain.
Education and credentials
High school diploma or current enrollment is enough. Add a course or training in customer service if you have one.

This sample uses an invented name and employers. Replace every line with your own facts, and keep any figure you add real and provable.

EDUCATION
High School Diploma, Example High School, 2024Tailor the cashier resume to each posting
Read the posting and copy its exact terms into your summary, skills and bullets, but only where they describe work you have done. Put the requirement that appears first in the posting first in your skills block. If two jobs ask for different strengths, keep two versions of the cashier resume rather than one vague one.
Before you send it, copy the resume into a plain text file and read it top to bottom. Headings should be in order, dates should line up and no line should be cut off. Then ask a friend in the field to read it for ten seconds and say what the job is. If they cannot, move your strongest cashier facts higher.
Keywords recruiters scan for
Recruiters and screening software search for exact terms from the posting. These are common for a cashier resume; use only the ones that are true for you, and match the spelling the job post uses.
cashier, cash handling, point of sale, POS, customer service, balancing a drawer, card payments, returns, bagging, accuracy, retail, weekend availability.
Common cashier resume mistakes
- Leaving out availability on a schedule-driven job.
- Claiming perfect accuracy you cannot back up.
- Making the resume longer than one page.
- Skipping the customer service side of the job.
- Using a template with photos and icons that confuse the screening software.
