Primary Focus: Building, operating and scaling container platforms across AWS and Azure

Core Technologies: Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, Amazon EKS, Azure AKS, Linux, Terraform and Ansible

About the Opportunity

A leading global aerospace and defense technology organization is seeking a Kubernetes Cloud Engineer to join an advanced enterprise cloud engineering team.

The organization develops aerospace, aviation and defense technologies that support commercial, military and government customers worldwide. Its broader mission includes advancing aviation, strengthening national security and developing transformative technologies that help connect and protect the world.

This position is part of a major cloud modernization initiative focused on expanding the organizations container capabilities across AWS and Azure. As demand for container-based workloads continues to grow, application owners need additional engineering support to build, run and scale their applications in the cloud.

This is a hands-on container engineering position. The Kubernetes Cloud Engineer will design, deploy and administer enterprise container platforms using Red Hat OpenShift, Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service and Azure Kubernetes Service. The engineer will also help establish automation, security, reliability and operational standards that support broader cloud adoption across the organization.

Important Employment Requirement

This position requires U.S. citizenship due to the nature of the work and applicable customer and security requirements.

Applicants must be able to verify U.S. citizenship as part of the onboarding process. The citizenship requirement is mandatory for this specific position.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Build, operate and scale container platforms across AWS and Azure
  • Design, deploy and administer Kubernetes environments using Red Hat OpenShift, Amazon EKS and Azure AKS
  • Help application owners migrate, run and scale containerized workloads in the cloud
  • Manage the complete lifecycle of Kubernetes clusters, including provisioning, upgrades, patching, capacity planning and performance tuning
  • Build reusable Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform
  • Automate Linux, Kubernetes and cloud platform administration using Ansible, Python or Bash
  • Develop and support CI/CD and GitOps workflows for platform changes and application deployments
  • Implement Kubernetes security controls, including role-based access control, network policies and compliance configurations
  • Support container security, monitoring, observability and platform reliability initiatives
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across Kubernetes, containers, Linux, networking, AWS and Azure
  • Develop platform standards and automation frameworks to support consistent cloud operations
  • Create operational runbooks, deployment standards and technical documentation
  • Collaborate with application owners, cloud engineers, security teams and other technical stakeholders
Required Container and Cloud Experience

Candidates must have hands-on experience running containers in AWS, Azure or both.

The ideal candidate will understand how to build and support the platforms that allow application teams to deploy and scale containerized workloads. This includes managing Kubernetes clusters, automating infrastructure, configuring networking and security, monitoring platform health and troubleshooting issues across the entire cloud container environment.

Strong experience should include:

  • Enterprise Kubernetes administration
  • Red Hat OpenShift
  • Amazon EKS within AWS
  • Azure AKS
  • Container deployment and orchestration
  • Kubernetes cluster lifecycle management
  • Linux administration and automation
  • Infrastructure as Code
  • Cloud networking and load balancing
  • Container security and access controls
  • Monitoring, observability and platform reliability
Required Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this position
  • Five or more years of cloud infrastructure, DevOps or platform engineering experience
  • Three or more years of hands-on Kubernetes administration experience
  • Strong experience with Red Hat OpenShift
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon EKS and/or Azure AKS
  • Experience supporting containerized workloads in AWS or Azure
  • Strong Linux administration experience with RHEL, Ubuntu or CentOS
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
  • Experience with systems or platform automation using Ansible
  • Scripting experience with Python or Bash
  • Experience supporting production container platforms
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes RBAC, network policies and security controls
  • Understanding of cloud networking, including VPCs, virtual networks, subnets, load balancing and platform connectivity
  • Ability to troubleshoot Kubernetes, Linux, networking and cloud infrastructure issues
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting container platforms across both AWS and Azure
  • Experience working with OpenShift, EKS and AKS in an enterprise environment
  • Experience with GitHub Actions, GitLab, Azure DevOps or Jenkins
  • Experience supporting GitOps practices and automated deployment workflows
  • Understanding of microservices and cloud-native application architectures
  • Experience with container monitoring and observability
  • Experience with container security and policy enforcement
  • Experience creating platform standards, runbooks and automation frameworks
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot complex, multi-layer technical issues
  • Strong communication skills for working with distributed engineering teams and application owners
The Cloud Container Initiative

The organization is expanding its use of container technology as more application teams move workloads into AWS and Azure. The growing backlog of container-based work has created a need for additional Kubernetes engineering support.

This initiative is focused on:

  • Giving application teams secure and scalable cloud container environments
  • Expanding the use of OpenShift, Amazon EKS and Azure AKS
  • Standardizing how Kubernetes clusters are built, secured and maintained
  • Automating cloud infrastructure through Terraform and Ansible
  • Improving container security, observability and platform reliability
